In fact, I intend to post sometime soon about the difference between the rules as written and the rules as played, and the value of consistency within the group.

The point to this post is how I think D&D fails on that count -- it tries to be everything to everyone, and can't be. By including so many options and rules, it ends up being a gamist game far and away, and a lot of players who try it end up disappointed. The real crux is that while you need to tailor your style and the game to the expectations of your players, that only goes so far; I do not believe that good players can save a fundamentally "bad" or flawed game.Jim Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02260131723330084739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485619538190338675.post-71092570069173953622010-08-05T06:07:13.302-07:002010-08-05T06:07:13.302-07:00Heh, it looks like you took our car conversion and...Heh, it looks like you took our car conversion and "idle" chit-chat and made a post out of it.

For each of these games, it can also very much depend on the GM. Dan and I both have a lot of simulist tendencies, but WhiteWolf works best for our group because the GM will often allow things if we can make a solid case for why X should cause Y and so on. So yeah, different RPG games to lend themselves better to certain game play styles, but it all boils down to your group and how you play the game.Lynnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08087314171140766948noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485619538190338675.post-39154455206295455512010-07-23T09:58:49.795-07:002010-07-23T09:58:49.795-07:00But seriously, why not throw down some of the stuf...But seriously, why not throw down some of the stuff you've been working on? Alan Wake's special edition comes with a Soundtrack disc, a bonus disc, a hard cover book, and a code for the first DLC free, as well as Gamestop's exclusive avatar shirt and theme. I also remember when Silent Hill 3 and Rule of Rose came out, Gamestop had the soundtrack discs with them, too. Unfortunately, that's hit and miss as well. Not everyone wants to watch how the game was made, or likes the soundtrack. But, that's another post, too, I bet. :PThe Window Keeperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09821598725115301727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485619538190338675.post-50285184101827766412010-05-19T06:13:54.696-07:002010-05-19T06:13:54.696-07:00That's not terrible, all things considered, th...That's not terrible, all things considered, though it probably causes some hurt feelings to find out that the item you preordered to get access to is a piece of junk. Now what I don't mind as far as exclusives are concerned is cosmetic upgrades -- outfits, skins and the like. But I left that out since it was off-topic. I'll probably address the full gravity of DLC in one or more future posts.Jim Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02260131723330084739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485619538190338675.post-13556912164098079132010-05-18T19:22:56.923-07:002010-05-18T19:22:56.923-07:00There's also exclusive DLC for weapons that ar...There's also exclusive DLC for weapons that are good for only the first two missions, and useless beyond that. Bioware did that exact thing with the Singularity gun in Mass Effect 2. They give it as free DLC, but its quickly overpowered by another singularity weapon, and a class that makes stronger singularities than the weapon does. The Window Keeperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09821598725115301727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485619538190338675.post-29203835175680903442009-07-24T17:55:19.086-07:002009-07-24T17:55:19.086-07:00As much as it pains me to mention this game, Kane ...As much as it pains me to mention this game, Kane and Lynch: Dead Men did a good take on the regenerating health that made it seem more realistic...ish.

Like RS: Vegas, you could take very few shots, and heal slowly (depending on your difficulty, the "slowly" is relative). When you "passed out," one of your buddies would give you a shot of atropine, and send you on your way. Buuuuuuuuut... you'd take less hits until you were healed. If you passed out directly after getting stung by the atropine, your buddy sticks you again, but you die of an overdose.

Was it completely realistic? No, but it was pretty close, and considering the difficulty of the game, it made it slightly more balanced. The Window Keeperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09821598725115301727noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485619538190338675.post-62153426183536082082009-06-15T11:32:50.761-07:002009-06-15T11:32:50.761-07:00Fusion charge = 2^time. So you have the right idea.

The grenades from the Charge Projector don't hurt you -- if I was being fully realistic they would, but I'm going for some simplicity here. This may change later.

Also, each weapon uses its own ammo, and can carry a max number of magazines. I think it's twelve for the Pulse Rifle and six for everything else; more effective weapons have rarer ammo. Again, for simplicity, the player can carry all six weapons.Jim Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02260131723330084739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485619538190338675.post-20687713640981657762009-06-13T17:30:48.072-07:002009-06-13T17:30:48.072-07:00Yay, you have a blog! Therefore 8*12=96 damage? I'm a little confused cause I thought remember you saying something about it charging exponentially . Does it charge exponentially with time perhaps? Also, is it possible to hurt yourself with the Charge Projector since they have a 2 seconds before detonating?

Also... does your character have a magical bag of holding for his ALL of his weapons and ammo? What's the limits on what can be carried? (Are there limits?)

I understand your mindset, and you seem to have a good weapon lineup with each weapon doing it's own thing. From the brief descriptions given, I can see where there appears to be some flexibility different styles of play. Of course, if you're making certain types of ammo rarer than others, then that may not be an accurate assumption. (Of course, I know you aren't going to drop plasma lances like candy from a pinata... then you'd just have a bunch of "wasted code.")Lynnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08087314171140766948noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8485619538190338675.post-78365760708586633662009-06-13T17:08:00.293-07:002009-06-13T17:08:00.293-07:00"Linear Proportional Control in Dynamic Level..."Linear Proportional Control in Dynamic Level Design for Computer Entertainment Software"

LPCDLDCES...
